Here’s a funny story (and by funny I mean frustrating). I was following some hints on a collateral line when I discovered that, according to his Life Story he was married and had children AFTER HE HAD DIED! This seems impossible, I know. This proves that anything is possible when you input the data wrong into Ancestry. Anyway, now I’m faced with the problem of how to separate this, Father/Son amalgamation, without losing part of my tree into the ether! Any suggestions on how to keep it all organized while I’m performing surgery to separate Jr from Sr?

Thoroughly Discouraged/!

As you know from my previous postings I have been purging my “family” tree for a few months now; what I have discovered is that there were SO MANY errors (e.g., duplicates connected to the wrong families) that I decided to remove everyone from “across the pond” and start over, UUUGH! As a result of this draining of the swamp, I don’t have anyone in my tree beyond my 10th great-grandparents (GGPs). My family tree now contains fewer than 2300 people/! For those of you who are wondering about my occasional use of a forward slash (/) in conjunction with an exclamation point, I use it to indicate a half-exclamation… a statement that lacks the anger, passion, surprise, or vitriol of a full exclamation. Back to my tree, I have begun a thorough sweep of the more recent (speaking chronologically) ornaments in my family tree to discover if any further purges are necessary. ELIMINATION ROUND ONE!

Well… I started this journey with more than 5000 names in my family tree, and after filling in some of its cousin-branches that number grew to over 5200! This has been a long and arduous process but, I have deleted about a thousand names that I have little more than a name for with insufficient sources, combined duplicates, and erased other… more dubious characters. That is all for this update. Thank you for listening to my rantings.

Ira Gideon, & Helen Mar (RANDALL) GREEN

Ira Gideon GREEN was born on 19 Oct 1881 in Utopia, Bandera, Texas, USA. He married Helen Mar RANDALL on 7 Jan 1917 (age 36). They had their daughter on 24 Mar 1919, and their son, and last child, on 7 Sep 1920 at nearly 39 years of age. For most of Ira’s married life he was in the construction trade, with a short stint as a rail-car builder (1918-1919). He died on 8 Feb 1959, in Santa Rosa, Sonoma, California, USA, at the age of 77.

Helen Mar RANDALL was born on 30 Apr 1883, in Olema, Marin, California, USA. She married Ira Gideon GREEN when she was 34 years old. She died on 26 Nov 1961, in Santa Rosa, Sonoma, California, USA, at the age of 78.

DNA Test

Hello, my cousins (close and distant)! I am excited to report that I received my Ancestry DNA test today! I will mail it tomorrow morning, and I’ll keep you updated on the results.

Based on the work my mom and I have done, I have a good idea of what to expect from the DNA profile. However, I am super excited to see who I’m related to and through which lines!

Long Hiatus

I am back to tackle the long and arduous journey through my family history! A lot has happened in the past few years, none of which is a good enough reason for abandoning this blog. The simple truth is, I am afraid of rejection, and failure.

All I can promise is, I will do my best to overcome my fears.
